Just found out my neighbor's open wifi got me a cease and desist letter

Last month I got a letter from my ISP saying someone in my house was downloading copyrighted stuff. I was freaking out because I only stream shows and use YouTube. After checking my router logs I saw a device I didn't recognize connected to my network. Turns out my neighbor two doors down was using my unprotected wifi for three weeks straight. My wifi password was still the default from when I set it up 2 years ago lol. Anyone else had a random person piggyback off their connection?

@beth_reed is right, that letter is just covering their butt. Your neighbor sounds like a real piece of work though.

That letter just means your ISP is covering themselves, not that you're in real trouble.

Holy cow, TWO doors down? That's wild. So they had to be sitting there with their laptop or whatever like a spy, picking up your signal all the way from their place for three weeks straight. I mean, that takes some serious dedication to being a freeloader, doesn't it? At least they weren't downloading anything that got the cops involved, just the copyright stuff. But seriously, who does that and thinks nobody will notice?
