Just realized my password manager was saving duplicates of everything for 2 years
I found out from a blog post on Troy Hunt's site that having 400+ duplicates in your vault actually makes it easier for someone to guess patterns, so I spent yesterday cleaning all that out and now I'm wondering if anyone else has tried using a different tool to scan for duplicates automatically.

A million duplicates or a clean vault, it probably doesn't matter all that much for most people. Troy Hunt is smart, but he's writing for a very specific kind of computer security crowd. The average person's password manager is just storing the same three passwords they use everywhere anyway. Unless you're some big target with a lot to lose, I wouldn't lose sleep over one duplicate. Sounds like a good way to waste a Saturday afternoon.

Honestly, I cleaned out my own vault last year after a weekend of nothing better to do. Found 47 old logins for sites I forgot existed and a Wi-Fi password from 2012. It was kind of satisfying, but unless you're really bored or worried about something specific, probably not worth the hassle.

Patricia's not wrong about most people using the same three passwords, but a duplicate isn't about pattern guessing - it's more that the password manager gets slower and more annoying to search through as the list grows.
