My kid's tablet got a weird pop-up while we were at the library
We were at the Seattle Public Library last week, and my son was playing a free math game on his tablet. Out of nowhere, a full screen ad popped up saying 'Your device is infected, click here to clean!' and wouldn't close. I immediately took the tablet, turned off the wifi, and force quit the app. I had to do a factory reset when we got home because the pop-up kept coming back. Has anyone else had a kid's game app do something like this?

Did you check the app's reviews before downloading? Those fake virus pop-ups are super common in free kids games, and other parents usually warn about them in the comments. A factory reset was the right call to get rid of it.

Checking reviews is a good start, but those warnings often come too late. The real problem is how these apps get approved for kids in the first place. The store needs better filters.
