My router's firmware update in Tulsa killed my smart plugs for 2 days, so now I'm torn on auto updates
Last Tuesday I let my router run its firmware update overnight, and by morning all 6 of my smart plugs were offline and the app said they couldn't find the network. I messed with it for 2 days, resetting plugs and redoing the wifi password, until I finally turned off the new band steering setting that the update had turned on by default. Now I can't decide if auto updates are worth it, since on one hand they patch holes the bad guys use, but on the other hand this one broke my whole setup for 48 hours. Part of me thinks we should all just set a reminder and do them by hand after checking forums, but the other part says most people never would and that's worse. What do you all do, let them auto install or hold off and read the complaints first?
