Talked to a sysadmin buddy in Dallas and he flipped my view on password managers

I used to think password managers were just another target for hackers to grab all your logins at once. Last week my friend Mark in Dallas explained how they actually encrypt everything locally before it ever hits their servers. He said the biggest risk is people reusing passwords across sites, not the manager itself. Now I'm thinking about ditching my sticky notes for Bitwarden. Has anyone else switched and regretted it or found it way easier than they expected?

Yeah actually that's not quite right about everything being encrypted before hitting servers, some password managers do cloud sync of encrypted data but the decryption key stays local so the server never sees your actual passwords. Still way better than sticky notes though for sure

Yeah I read a Forbes article that said most password managers use zero-knowledge encryption so the company literally can't see your passwords even if they wanted to. Made me realize sticky notes are way riskier than I thought.

Wait does that mean if I lose my phone I'm totally locked out of everything? Cause I had a friend who used one of those encrypted note apps and forgot his master password and basically lost his whole digital life for like a week while he tried to remember it. Made me glad I still use a little notebook hidden behind my bookshelf honestly, at least if I spill coffee on it I can still read most of it.

Oh man I feel that worry about getting locked out, that's honestly my biggest fear too. I switched to Bitwarden a few months back and almost had a heart attack when I couldn't remember my master password for like 10 seconds. What finally pushed me over was realizing my sticky note behind my monitor had my bank password written in plain sight for anyone walking by. It's not perfect but I sleep better knowing I'm not the same password for everything anymore.
