Two-Factor Backup Codes, Lost in a Drawer, Lesson Learned

Honestly, I thought I was being careful. Set up 2FA on my email and bank, printed the backup codes, and stashed them in a folder in my nightstand. When my phone died last Tuesday, I needed those codes to get into my email and reset everything. I could not find the folder anywhere, turned my whole apartment upside down for three hours. Turns out, my cat had knocked it behind the dresser and it blended right in with the dust. I learned to keep a photo of those codes in a locked note on my laptop instead. Has anyone else had a near miss with their backup recovery methods?
