Vent: I hit 47 reused passwords in my vault last night and I can't decide if that's a problem or just normal
Cleaned out my password manager for the first time in about 2 years and found 47 accounts sharing the same 3 passwords, mostly old shopping sites I forgot about. Half of me says a unique password for a site selling me socks is overkill, the other half says one breach and someone's trying those 3 passwords on my email at 3am. Where do you draw the line on which accounts actually deserve a one of a kind password?
Used to roll my eyes at people reusing passwords for throwaway stuff, figured everyone should just use a manager and be done with it. Then I sat down one night to actually sort my logins and realized I had like 200 accounts and half of them were things I signed up for once to read a recipe or track a package. My whole view flipped after that. Now I basically keep three tiers: stuff that matters (bank, email) gets its own strong one, shopping gets a middle tier, and junk sites get whatever. The sock site level stuff honestly does not deserve more effort than that. Trying to make 200 unique passwords is how people give up and go back to password123 everywhere, which is way worse than a little reuse on sites that hold nothing.
