Warning: My "secure" password manager forgot me on update day

Last Thursday I updated my password manager app on my phone and it logged me out, then demanded a master password I've typed a hundred times. It kept saying wrong password, so I had to dig through my emergency backup sheet and reset the whole vault from scratch. Any tips on keeping a password manager reliable without locking myself out right after an update?

My last update did the same thing, wiped my saved logins on a Tuesday morning no less. I used to figure the app would handle all of it, but now I keep a paper copy in a drawer and that's saved me twice.
