Can we talk about the left lane on the 405 being for passing, not cruising?
I drive from Long Beach to Santa Monica every day, and half the cars just camp there going the speed limit. It backs everything up for miles. What's your take, is it okay to just chill there if you're not speeding?

That 405 stretch is a parking lot by design, so I get why people just hold their spot. The real problem is the sheer number of cars, not the drivers in the left lane.

My cousin is a trucker and he says left lane camping is the number one cause of those traffic waves where everyone suddenly brakes. It doesn't matter if you're going the speed limit, you're still blocking the flow. The rule is simple, keep right except to pass. It should be taught more in driver's ed.

Watched my buddy get stuck behind a left lane camper on the 101 last week. He had his blinker on for a solid mile while this guy just stared ahead, matching speed with the car next to him. It created this whole rolling roadblock that made everyone behind them start swerving and braking. The left lane isn't a VIP lounge, it's for getting around slower traffic. Even if you're going the speed limit, you need to move over if someone wants to pass. It's basic driving manners that keep things flowing.
