Dropped $80 on a dash cam after that hit-and-run on I-35 last Tuesday

Caught the whole thing on camera and sent the footage to the highway patrol, got a call back in 3 hours saying they found the guy. Anyone else ever had a cheap gadget actually pay off during a commute?

Drove straight to Best Buy after my last fender bender and grabbed a $60 one off the shelf. @drew55 my footage was blurry on the plate at night but the make and model was crystal clear plus the guy's bumper sticker said "I brake for unicorns" so that probably helped. Three hours later the cops had him because he posted the accident on Facebook bragging about his new unicorn sticker. Honestly the best $60 I ever spent just for the comedy of watching that dude get roasted in the comments. Now I tell everyone to get the cheapest one that actually records audio because the cops love hearing you scream at traffic too.

Did the footage actually show their license plate clearly or was it just the make and model?

@drew55 oh man the unicorn sticker was gold honestly because it made him stand out way more than a plate number would have. But nah the footage only caught his plate at like 15 feet away in broad daylight and it was still a little fuzzy with my old $60 camera. If you really want plates get one with a better lens and make sure it's positioned low enough to catch the angle right or you'll just get a nice shot of their hood and nothing useful. The audio was the real MVP though because you could hear me yelling "READ THE PLATE" and the cops probably got a good laugh before they pulled him over.
