Had to decide between the express bus and the local train this morning

I normally take the express bus from downtown to my stop near Oak Park, but it was running 15 minutes late. So I hopped on the local train instead, thinking I'd save time, but then it made every single stop and I ended up 20 minutes late to drop my youngest at school. Has anyone else had to make that split-second choice and regretted it?

Nope, @rubyshah is totally right, I did the same thing last week and it sucked.

That reminds me of when I tried to take the ferry to avoid downtown traffic last month. Showed up right when it was supposed to leave but the board said they had a mechanical issue and it was delayed an hour. By the time I gave up and drove, I hit the worst of rush hour anyway. Sometimes you just can't win no matter what you pick. The transit gods really like messing with us I swear.

Read an article last week that said switching modes of transit almost always backfires because you factor in the delay of the first one but forget the extra stops on the second. That was exactly my experience with the local vs express on the Orange Line last month. The express bus was 10 minutes late so I jumped on the local and it took almost 40 minutes with all the stops. Definitely not worth it.
