Hot take: people who talk loud on the train should get a separate car

Overheard a guy yesterday on the 6 train giving a full sales pitch to his whole side of the car for 20 blocks. Nobody wants to hear about your Q3 targets at 8am. Anyone else deal with this crap?

Honestly, I used to be one of those "it's a public space, deal with it" people, but I changed my mind after sitting next to a guy who took three work calls in ten minutes. Being trapped on a train while someone yells about quarterly numbers is a special kind of hell, and we're all just trying to get to work. It's not about being quiet, it's about having some basic courtesy for the people crammed in around you (you know, like not forcing them to hear your entire meeting).

Oh come on, @craig.john sounds like a good storyteller, and honestly some of you act like you've never had to take a call on a train. If you don't want to hear life happen around you, maybe get a car or invest in some noise-canceling headphones instead of policing everyone else's morning.

Made the mistake of locking eyes with a phone-call guy once. Now I know about his cat's dental surgery AND his brother-in-law's mortgage refinancing. Way more personal details than I ever needed from a stranger at 7:45am.
