My dad told me to take the 7:15 train to avoid the crowds

He said it would be way less packed than the later ones... so I got up early for a week to test it. Turns out, the 7:15 is the exact train that all the high school kids take from Maplewood station. It was a total zoo of backpacks and noise every single day. I went back to my old 7:45 train, which is actually quieter. Has anyone else gotten really bad commute advice from a family member?

Did he give any other advice that turned out to be totally wrong? Like telling you a certain coffee shop was fast, but the line is always out the door, or that a shortcut through a neighborhood actually takes longer with all the stop signs. It makes you wonder what else you should double-check.

Actually gotta defend the dad here a bit. He was probably just trying to help based on what he knew. Things change, sure, but his heart was in the right place. Maybe the advice was good once, and he hasn't had to take that train in years. It's not like he was trying to set you up for a bad week. Sometimes old tips are all they have to give.

Parents give outdated advice because their own commute was twenty years ago.
