Bought the same pass last month and honestly thought it worked fine for me on the Blue Line. Not saying your experience is wrong but maybe it depends on the bus route or the time of day?

Must be my special talent for picking the one bus where the card reader has a personal vendetta against me! Guess I'll just have to wave my pass at the driver and hope for the best.

Oh geez, that's rough! @lily70 might be onto something with the card reader theory, but I wonder if the app itself is just clunky across the board. Maybe the real issue is that those "rapid" passes are designed for newer bus models and they don't test them on the older ones that still use those slow readers.
