Rent: Dropped the coffee mug while driving and it was a messy wake-up call
I always sipped coffee during my drive and spilled it last week when I braked hard. My seats got soaked and I almost missed my exit from the distraction. Now I finish my cup before leaving the house, no exceptions. My car stays clean and I focus better on the road. Trust me, wait till you park to drink anything hot.

That point about focusing better without coffee in the car is so true. It's not just spills, your brain is busy managing the cup instead of watching the road. I used to sip tea on my commute and realized I'd miss little things like pedestrians waiting to cross. Now I drink before I leave and my awareness is way sharper.

Harpery47, that bit about the brain managing the cup reminded me of when I used to try to text and walk. I walked into a pole once because I was so focused on my phone. It's the same idea, your attention gets split on stupid stuff. Now I stop moving if I need to do anything with my hands. Your commute story just shows how dangerous divided attention can be.

Wait, drinking right before you leave might backfire though. That's when the caffeine really kicks in, and you don't want a jolt hitting you halfway through a busy intersection. I found having my coffee a solid 30 minutes before driving lets me wake up without the rush. You get the focus without the jumpy nerves, you know?
