The 7 train ghost station trick I wish I knew sooner
I used to just get on the first 7 train that showed up at Vernon-Jackson heading into Manhattan. But after getting stuck for 15 minutes three times last month while express trains zoomed past, a guy pointed out that waiting for the next train on the opposite platform actually skips the local stops. Now I check the MTA app for the arrival times, saved me about 10 minutes each way on Tuesday alone. Anyone else find a weird platform switch that shaves off time?

I noticed the same thing on the 4/5/6 line a few years ago, taking the express instead of the local saved me almost 20 minutes during rush hours. Have you tried timing that switch with the app during the worst of the afternoon crush, or does it only hold up in the mornings? I started checking the next three trains before I even tap my MetroCard, because one delay can throw the whole pattern off. What's your backup plan if the opposite platform train gets rerouted or delayed too?

Hey @torres.grant, have you ever tried just walking over to the next stop if the express is totally dead? I mean, sometimes it's faster to just hoof it one or two stations than gamble on the next train being any better, especially when the app is lying to you about the arrival times.
