The 8:15 express is NOT a local, learn to read the signs
I ride the 8:15 express out of Portland every morning and at least twice a week someone tries to get on and then gets mad when the conductor says no stops until downtown. There's a big yellow sign above the door that says EXPRESS in 3 inch letters. How do people miss that after riding this same route for months?

You know, it's funny you mention the yellow sign... but what I really wonder is whether these people are actually reading the sign at all, or if they're just so used to hopping on any train that their brain auto-pilots past the big yellow letters. Like, do they think all trains make every stop and the conductor is just being difficult? Or is this more about people being in a rush and not caring until they have to get off somewhere the express doesn't stop?

You're kinda mixing up two different things though... the express trains skip stops on purpose, it's not like people ignoring a limit sign. Some folks might genuinely not know the system if they're new to the city or just visiting.

Is it just me or is this part of how people stop paying attention to anything that's right in front of them? I see it at the grocery store all the time, people stand under the "15 items or less" sign with a full cart and get huffy when the cashier points it out. Or at the gym, someone parks in the "25 minute parking" spot and then acts surprised when they get a ticket an hour later. We've all got our heads down looking at phones or just zoning out, so we miss the obvious clues that are literally designed to help us. Maybe that yellow sign needs to be flashing or something to cut through the daily fog.
