The bus detour in Denver added 40 minutes, and nobody warned us

Tuesday morning my usual 35 minute ride into downtown turned into 75 because the driver made an unplanned detour for a street closure that wasn't on any app. The transit agency posted about it on their site at 6am, but I didn't see it until I was already on the bus. Even the driver said he got the route change ten minutes before pulling out, so he couldn't warn anyone either. I've taken this line for two years and this is the third time a construction detour has caught me off guard, but this one was the worst. What's the longest your commute has stretched because of a surprise reroute, and did you find a way to check for those before leaving? I'm thinking about setting up a daily alert, but I want to know if that's actually worth it or if I should just build in extra time every day.
