This morning I figured out I'd been loading the subway the wrong way for 5 years

I always stand right in front of the doors when the train pulls up, ready to push on. But this morning at the 7th Ave stop, this older lady just stood off to the side and let everyone get off first before she even moved. I was like oh, that makes way more sense. I've been fighting against a stream of people every single day for no reason. Has anyone else had a basic commute habit get totally flipped by watching someone else do it?

Ready to push on" is literally how I lived my life. Same exact thing happened to me with an escalator. Always stood on the left until someone told me it was for walking. Felt like a complete idiot for years.

Figured out the hard way that "stand on the right, walk on the left" isn't universal either. Traveled to Tokyo and everyone was standing on the left instead. Total chaos for my brain first time.

Yeah did you ever trip someone? Because I definitely did once. Now I just look at the floor markings before I step on so I don't screw up again.
