Tried taking the bus at 5:30 AM to beat traffic, learned what exhaustion really means

I got it in my head that leaving earlier would mean a peaceful ride. Hopped on the 5:37 AM bus on Elm Street and it was full of people who smelled like they hadn't slept in days. One guy was snoring so loud the driver had to ask him to stop. I learned that no time of day is truly quiet on public transit, has anyone else found a magic hour that works?

Honestly, I used to think that 4 AM was the golden hour for a quiet ride. I was totally wrong. Took a 4:20 AM bus once and it was full of people heading to early shifts who looked like they were running on fumes and coffee alone. Ngl, there's no magic hour. It's just a different kind of tired crowd no matter when you go. Tbh, you learn real quick that public transit is its own world at any time.

Oh man, I feel you so hard on this. I tried the early morning thing too, thought I was being smart but ended up on a bus at 5:45 with a guy who was literally snoring like a chainsaw and a lady singing along to her headphones out loud. @jamie770 hit the nail on the head. The only time that worked for me was around 10 AM on a Saturday, after the rush but before the mall crowd. Even then, you get the occasional weirdo with a loud phone call about their conspiracy theories. Honestly, I just gave up and started biking when the weather's decent.

Snoring so loud the driver had to step in? That's wild.
