Used to drive with my high beams on every foggy morning until a stranger yelled at me at a gas station
I live near the river in Portland and for 3 years I thought brights helped me see through dense fog better. Last December a guy in a truck jumped out and told me I was blinding everyone and making the fog worse for myself. Has anyone else had a driving habit that took someone else pointing it out to finally change?

Started aiming my side mirrors outward so fog wouldn't bounce that glare right back at me.

Wait, so you actually pointed them outward on purpose? I never tried that myself but it makes a lot of sense now that I think about it. I always just get annoyed when the fog lights up the whole mirror and blinds me from the side glare. I bet angling them outward cuts down on that reflection from the glass or whatever. Plus you still get a decent view of the lane next to you if you adjust them right. I usually just tilt mine down a little bit in heavy fog, but your way sounds better for keeping visibility clear without that harsh bounce coming back at your eyes. Might have to mess with mine tomorrow morning.

My dad actually taught me that same trick years ago and it works so well. I also tilt the passenger mirror just a hair lower in fog and it makes a huge difference.
