Vent: People who stop at green lights to let pedestrians cross
I swear, every single morning on my way through downtown Portland, I hit the same intersection where someone slams on their brakes at a green light to wave someone across who's still on the curb. It messes up the whole flow and almost causes a rear-end pileup every time. The crosswalk signal is right there, just wait for it to turn or go when it's your turn. Has anyone else had a close call because of this?

Cracked my bumper trying to wave someone across last week, total bonehead move.

Yeah but like... is a cracked bumper really that big of a deal? I mean I get it if it's a brand new car or something but bumpers are basically just plastic meant to take hits. Scratches and dings happen, that's just how it goes when you drive. I've had a cracked bumper on my old Civic for like two years now and honestly I barely even notice it anymore. It's not like the car is gonna fall apart from a little crack in the plastic.

Tara I've been there and it SUCKS. The key is to commit to your decision once you start waving someone across. If you're gonna be a nice guy and stop at a green light, you have to check your mirrors FIRST and make sure nobody is right behind you. Saw someone get their rear end smashed in last month because they did the exact same move you pulled. @harpery47 is talking like a cracked bumper isn't a big deal, but that's $500+ out of pocket if the other driver doesn't have insurance or just leaves. Your Civic might be okay with a cracked bumper, Harper, but most of us don't want to deal with the headache of repairs and insurance claims over something that's not even a real crosswalk. Just wait for the walk signal like a normal person and keep the traffic moving.
