Warning: My bike chain snapped on the bridge over the Willamette this morning
Had to walk the last mile to work in the rain (of course) with grease all over my hands. Anyone know a good bike shop in Portland that won't charge an arm and a leg for a quick fix?

That's a rough way to start the day lol. Grease hands in the rain is a special kind of Portland misery. I've had good luck with the folks at Sellwood Cycle for honest, quick repairs.

Grease hands in the rain" really is the perfect way to put it, @joel_martinez. I read a local blog piece once that called bike maintenance in our weather a form of advanced citizenship. Sellwood Cycle gets mentioned a lot for actually getting you back on the road fast.

That "advanced citizenship" line is so true. It's not just about fixing your bike, it's about learning how the rain changes everything. Like how a simple chain clean turns into a whole process when you're trying not to get mud in the links. Joel_martinez is right about the misery, but that weird knowledge feels like a badge of honor after a while. You start to recognize the different sounds a wet drivetrain makes versus a dry one. It forces you to understand your bike on a deeper level, which honestly makes you a safer rider too.
