Warning: That "express lane" on the 405 in LA made my 30 minute trip stretch to 2 hours last Tuesday

I merged into the faster lane at exactly 7:45am, watched a broken down Prius block the entire thing just past the Sepulveda exit, and sat there for 45 minutes wondering if I should have stayed in the regular traffic that was actually moving, so does anyone else think those lanes are a total gamble or do you swear by them?

The lane is only faster until someone's EV decides to take a nap in it. I've seen that exact Prius situation happen way too often, it's like a magnet for breakdowns. You basically have to check the CHP incident feed before committing or just flip a coin.

Wait hold on, you're saying you actually check the CHP feed before getting in the lane? That's wild, I never even thought of doing that tbh. Just seems like way too much work for something that's supposed to be a simple drive. But I guess after getting stranded twice in the last year, maybe I should start. Its pretty crazy that people have to treat a commute like some kind of logistical operation just to avoid a dead battery. The fact that you've seen the exact same Prius breakdown multiple times is insane, like is there a specific model year that just gives up? Honestly sounds like a whole different world driving in California vs here in Colorado.

Flip a coin" is exactly right, I got burned the same way last month.
