Warning: Tried taking a shortcut through that alley behind Maple Ave
So yesterday I thought I'd save 10 minutes by cutting through the alley behind Maple Ave near the old bakery. Big mistake. Got halfway through and a loose dog came running out from behind some trash bins. I froze, it barked at me for a solid minute, then some guy came out and called it off. I was late anyway cause I had to wait for my heart to stop pounding. Has anyone else had bad luck with alley shortcuts near 5th Street?

Have you noticed how every shortcut in this town just trades one problem for another? I took the alley behind the laundromat on 3rd once to avoid the traffic light, ended up stepping in something that I'm still not sure was mud. Then there's the one near the library that's supposed to cut ten minutes off your walk, but half the time there's a guy sleeping against the dumpster or a freaked-out raccoon. Seems like every hidden path has a hidden cost attached to it.

Oh man, @eva_thompson you hit the nail on the head. I avoid the library shortcut myself now after a raccoon stared me down for a solid minute and I just took the long way home.

The alley behind the old bakery used to have a security camera on the post near the dumpster... I noticed it was gone last week, so that loose dog probably wasn't the only thing to worry about back there.
