Can we talk about the guy who told me to stop letting my beagle sniff everything?
Last Saturday at the park in Riverside, this older fella with a border collie stopped me and said my beagle was "reading the newspaper too long" at every bush we passed. At first I got a little annoyed, but then he explained that 15 minutes of sniffing tires a dog out more than a mile of fast walking, so I let her lead more now. The funny part is my walks actually got shorter, because she flops down on the couch after 20 minutes of serious sniffing instead of pulling me around for an hour. Now I feel weird rushing her past a good smell, like I'm skipping someone's favorite part of a book. Does anyone else just stand there waiting while their dog sniffs the same spot for five minutes?
