Just swapped my retractable leash for a 6-foot nylon one after 10 years

Picked the standard leash over the flexi on a rainy Tuesday and my dog stopped pulling in less than 3 blocks, has anyone else ditched a long-time habit and seen their walk instantly get better?

harper_foster, you said 'a small change can break a bad habit you did not know you had,' and that's spot on. But here's the thing nobody's talking about - swapping leashes changes the physics of how your body and the dog communicate. A 6-foot fixed leash keeps a steady tension in your arm, so your dog feels your presence all the time, not just when you yank it. With a retractable, the line goes slack then snaps tight, which can make a dog think they're in charge of the space until that sudden stop happens. That constant little vibration through the nylon is like training without thinking.

Did your dog really stop pulling that fast, or was it just the rainy Tuesday keeping them calm? I remember when I finally swapped my old leather collar for a harness after years, and it felt like the walk was a whole new thing. The harness didn't fix everything, but it made me pay more attention to how I was holding the leash and where my hand was. Funny how a small change can break a bad habit you did not even know you had. Now I wonder what else I am doing out of routine that could be better with a tweak.
