Met a guy at the dog park who said he times his walks to avoid the 4pm squirrel rush hour

He showed me a photo of his terrier pinned under a bush after chasing a squirrel into a storm drain last Tuesday, and now I check the time before I grab the leash every single walk, has anyone else noticed a specific time when the squirrels go wild around your neighborhood?

3pm sharp in my neighborhood, that's when the squirrels turn into little crackheads. I live over by Oakwood Park and there's this one oak tree that basically erupts with them right after the school bus drops the kids off, like they know the chaos is starting. My old dog used to just watch them, but my current one is a total nutcase and we had to change our whole schedule because of a near miss with a fire hydrant at 3:15 last fall. I swear they have a shift change or something, the morning crew is way more chill just foraging while the afternoon ones are on a mission to get hit by a car or something.

Man you nailed it with the shift change thing. I got a big maple in my backyard and the morning squirrels are polite like they nod at you while grabbing a fallen acorn, but come 4pm they're launching off the fence like they got a death wish. My cat sits at the window drooling because one of them actually crashed into the screen last week and just shook it off and kept going. They run across the phone line between my house and the neighbors like it's a tightrope in a circus. Something about that afternoon light flips a switch in their brains.
