That UPS driver on Oak Street taught me something about leash training

I was walking my Golden Retriever past the Oak Street delivery area yesterday and a UPS driver stopped to say he carries mini treats for ALL the dogs he meets. He said he's seen a hundred reactive dogs calm down just because he waited for them to sniff his hand first. I tried it this morning on my walk and my dog barely pulled when another dog walked past. Has anyone else had luck with just waiting for your dog to check things out before moving on?

Did you try just stopping and letting your dog sniff the ground first?
