The $60 'reflective' harness that glowed in my closet, not on the road

I got this fancy harness with reflective strips from an online ad back in March, paid $60 for it because the reviews were glowing. Took my dog out at 7pm last week when it was already dark, and nearly got clipped by a car because the strips barely show up unless a light shines right on them at a perfect angle. Even my cheap $15 collar from the hardware store reflects better. Anybody else get burned by gear that claims to be high-vis but is just a marketing gimmick?

Ugh, tell me about it. I bought a "reflective" jacket for myself last year and nearly got smoked walking to the store, my old beat-up vest works way better.
