TIL my neighbor's "shortcut" route was actually 10 minutes longer

Old Man Harold from three doors down swore his alley shortcut would shave off time from our morning dog walks. Tried it yesterday with my golden retriever and we hit three dead ends before backtracking through mud. Has anyone else gotten bad walking advice from a well-meaning neighbor?

Tried a neighbor's "shortcut" once and ended up in their backyard thinking it was a public path.

Got to push back a little here. Shortcuts are a gamble for sure, but I’ve had good luck with mine. You just have to scope it out first, maybe walk it once before counting on it. Most people don’t mind you cutting through if you’re respectful and don’t trample their garden. Still, I get why you’d be wary after that backyard situation, that’s rough.
