I finally stopped biting my nails after 22 years by keeping a rubber band on my wrist
I was sitting in traffic on I-95 near Baltimore last Tuesday and caught myself chewing again, so I snapped the band and started flicking it whenever my hand drifted toward my mouth. Three weeks in and I've only slipped twice, but has anyone else tried this and had it stop working after a month or so?
Did you read that thing about how the rubber band trick works best as a way to notice the habit, not actually stop it? I saw something from a therapist online who said the snapping just brings your attention to what your hands are doing, and once your brain gets used to the signal it kind of tunes it out. That might be why it wears off after a few weeks for some people. Maybe try switching up where you keep the band or using a different kind of reminder so your brain doesn't go numb to it.
