My dad told me I was washing dishes wrong for 30 years
I was visiting my parents last month and my dad watched me scrub a cast iron pan with soap like I always do. He said 'you're ruining the seasoning, just use hot water and a brush.' I thought he was crazy but I tried it for a week and the pan actually cooks better now. Made me wonder what other simple habits I'm doing backwards. Anyone else get a reality check from an older relative about something basic?

Not really a blind spot if the car still ran for years.

I had a buddy who bragged for years about how he could change his own oil until his uncle watched him do it once and just started laughing. Turns out he was putting the oil filter on backwards or something, I forget the exact details, but his car started making this weird knocking sound a week later. His uncle had to help him drain everything out and redo it the right way. He said he felt like an idiot but the car ran way smoother after that. I think we all got these little blind spots where we think we're being clever and it turns out we're just making things harder for ourselves.
