Shoutout to the guy who told me to stop cleaning my cast iron pan with soap

I used to scrub my cast iron skillet with dish soap every night after dinner because I thought it needed to be 'clean'. Met a guy at the farmer's market who said just use hot water and a stiff brush, so I tried it for a week. My eggs slide around like they're on ice now. Has anyone else had a weird kitchen habit someone talked you out of?

Friend of mine told me to stop washing my cast iron with soap too. Switched to just hot water and a scrub brush and it changed EVERYTHING. My cornbread comes out perfect every time now without sticking.

But doesn't the soap actually remove bacteria and old grease that builds up over time...
