Six months of morning pages and my anxiety finally shut up
I started writing three handwritten pages every morning after seeing a friend do it during a visit to Portland, and at first it felt like a chore I'd quit by Tuesday. But around month four, I noticed I stopped replaying dumb conversations from 2019 while I brushed my teeth, and the noise in my head just got quieter. Has anyone else stuck with a habit long enough that the payoff showed up way later than you expected?

My yoga mat sat untouched for a year before I finally felt that calm, so yeah, your journaling win makes total sense.

That line about letting the mat sit untouched for a year really hit me. We put so much pressure on ourselves to make these tools work on a schedule, but the calm only comes when we're actually ready for it. The thing nobody talks about is that sometimes the space between attempts is part of the process, not a failure. @mila_murphy21, I wonder if you ever noticed that the year itself taught you more than the mat did. Like, you had to unlearn the guilt before the practice could mean anything. My take is that these wins are less about the habit and more about forgiving ourselves for not being ready sooner.
