Appreciation post: That moment I realized I'd been knitting wrong for 15 years

I was knitting a scarf for my niece last month and my stitches kept twisting funny, so I brought it to my local yarn shop in Portland for help. The owner took one look and said I'd been wrapping my yarn the wrong direction around the needle this whole time. Has anyone else had that moment where you find out the thing you've been doing for years was the backward version?

haha hold up hold up - I'm gonna push back on this one a bit. I've been knitting the "wrong" direction for like 12 years now and my stuff comes out totally fine? Like yeah maybe my stitches twist a little different but that's actually a thing some people prefer for certain patterns. I had a friend who was a professional knitter and she told me there's basically two ways to wrap yarn and neither is really wrong, it's just what your hands get used to. The owner of that shop might think her way is the only way but I've seen people win prizes at the county fair using both methods. Honestly if your scarf looks good and holds together, who cares if you wrap clockwise or counterclockwise?

Right? Pat's got it. I wrapped backward for 20 years and my stuff always held up fine.
