Cross-stitch floss color codes are not as standard as I thought

I spent 4 months working on a big cross-stitch pattern I bought off Etsy, and when I went to display it the colors looked totally off. Found out after digging around that the DMC and Anchor brand numbers don't match up the same way between older and newer batches. I checked the DMC website and apparently they changed formulas for 23 colors back in 2018. Has anyone else had their project colors shift after a few years of storage?

Are you sure it's that noticeable to anyone besides you? Storing floss for years can change it a bit but most people wouldn't spot it.

Honestly yeah I totally agree with you. I had a roll of some kind of floss sitting in my bathroom drawer for like 4 years and I pulled it out last month and it still worked fine, just felt a tiny bit stiffer. Nobody looking at my teeth would ever know the difference unless I told them.
