Spent $35 on a cheap airbrush kit for my minis, did it save me or burn me?
Grabbed a $35 compressor and brush combo off a guy at the flea market in Fresno about 2 months ago to speed up base coating my ork army, and some folks say anything under $100 is a total waste while others swear it's fine for beginners. Mine spit and clogged on the first 3 models, but once I thinned the paint way down it ran smooth for a whole squad, so I'm honestly torn on whether it was money well spent. Did cheap gear burn you or actually work out for your hobby?
Why would you drop real money on a name brand when your cheap kit already proved itself? You said it yourself, it ran a whole squad once you got the thinning right, and that one lesson is worth way more than the $35. The spit and clog on the first three minis wasn't the brush failing, it was you learning what thin paint feels like. A $120 brush would've clogged too if the paint was thick, so the gear wasn't the problem. For base coating orks where you're just laying down green and moving on, why pay for fine detail work you'll never use?
