That $60 silk painting kit turned into a neon disaster on my kitchen table

Ngl, I saw this fancy silk painting kit online and thought I'd make a cool scarf for my mom. Got it for $60 with all these dyes and gutta stuff, and tried it on a Saturday afternoon. The colors bled everywhere, my scarf looks like a tie-dye accident, and the dye stained my table despite the plastic sheet. I followed the instructions twice, but the resist lines just didn't hold up. Has anyone else tried this and actually got it to work, or did I just buy a dud?

...and that reminds me, my sister tried one of those adult paint by number kits last year and ended up with more paint on her dog than the canvas. The dog was a white lab, so for like two weeks he had this permanent purple splotch on his back that looked exactly like a bruise. We took him to the vet thinking something was wrong, and the vet was just like, "Is he a tie dye enthusiast?" Anyway, your silk thing sounds way more frustrating because at least the dog thing was funny. But yeah, I think those kits are just hit or miss, mostly miss honestly. Maybe try using heavier gutta next time or just lean into the chaos and call it abstract art for your mom.

Nah I disagree, those kits are pretty decent if you actually read the paint labels first.
