My office chair exploded mid-meeting this morning

Honestly I was just sitting there in a Zoom call about Q3 numbers and suddenly a loud POP came from under me. Next thing I know I'm on the floor with the gas cylinder sticking out sideways like a broken leg. Tbh everyone on the call saw it happen because my camera was on and they all started laughing. I had to finish the meeting from the floor holding my laptop. Ngl this chair was only $150 from Amazon and I've had it for about 8 months. Has anyone else had a chair just give out on them like that?

Oh dude, that is brutal! Tbh I had almost the exact same thing happen with a cheap desk chair from Walmart, except mine blew out when I leaned back to stretch. Honestly it's terrifying because you never see it coming, I literally just heard this hissing sound and then crash, I was on my back like a turtle. Ngl I'm never buying a chair under $200 now, it's not worth the risk of getting launched mid-call.

You're overthinking this @murphy.abby, a $60 chair from Target has lasted me 4 years without a single pop. Maybe the problem is leaning back like you're in a recliner instead of sitting in it like a normal person.
