PSA: If your kid hides their broccoli in a napkin, check the napkin before you say goodnight
My 6 year old has been "finishing" his veggies for 3 weeks and I felt like parent of the year. Then Tuesday night I picked up his napkin to toss it and it weighed like a small rock. I unfolded it and found 14 broccoli pieces and a carrot wedge all mushed together in there. He sat right across from me at our kitchen table in Boise, smiling, while I high fived him every single night. Now I do a napkin check before I clear his plate, and my wife thinks I am being sneaky. Anyone else get beat by a kindergartner at their own dinner table?
Wow, and he sat there smiling while you handed out high fives every night, that takes some real nerve for a kindergartner. The kid is basically running a con right under your nose at your own table. But here is where your wife is wrong, checking the napkin is not sneaky, it is just good parenting after you got burned once. If anything you should start checking under the table too, because where there is one napkin there is probably a stash of peas somewhere. Next time make him help you unfold the evidence before bed, bet he stops real quick.
