Swapped my old joke delivery for a single well-timed pause
Used to just fire off punchlines as fast as I could, thinking speed made things funnier. Then I watched a friend tell a 30-second story at a cookout last month and people were howling just from the silence before the end. Now I deliberately wait two beats before dropping the funny part and it lands way better. Anyone else notice the quiet part does more work than the words?

The two beat rule changed my timing completely, now I actually count Mississippi's under my breath before the punchline.

That bit about the "two beats" is spot on. I've been doing that too and it really does make people lean in.
