Thought the 'leave your orchid roots alone' advice was nonsense, now I see
I kept messing with my Phalaenopsis roots, trimming and repotting every few months. After I just let it sit in its pot for a full year, it finally bloomed with 8 flowers. Anyone else have a plant habit they had to unlearn the hard way?

Eight flowers, huh? That's basically a botanical miracle that your hands didn't manage to kill it faster. I used to pour water on my succulents every time I felt bored, you know, just to give them a little drink. Took me three dead jade plants to realize they don't need a sip every Tuesday. Now my snake plant sits in its corner collecting dust and somehow looks smug about it.

Stopped repotting my snake plant and it finally stopped looking miserable.

Five years with the same snake plant and the only time it looked good was when I ignored it completely. @theagibson nailed it with that stopped repotting fix. These things actually hate being messed with. The more you fuss over them the worse they get. Mine sits in a dark corner now and puts out new leaves like it's showing off.
