Heads up about those free moving boxes on the curb

I used to grab any cardboard left out on trash day, figured free is free. Last month I loaded up a bunch from a house on Elm Street and brought them straight to my storage unit. Turns out half of them had roach eggs in the seams, and now I'm fighting an infestation in a 10x10 unit I rent for $85 a month. Please inspect every flap and corner before you put them near your stuff, especially if they sat outside overnight. Has anyone else had good luck with a specific source for clean boxes that isnt the dumpster behind the grocery store?

Liquor stores are the move honestly. Hit up a couple local ones on their delivery days, like Tuesday or Wednesday morning, and they'll usually just hand you a stack of sturdy little boxes that held wine bottles. Those never sat outside and they're way cleaner than grocery store stuff. Only downside is they're small so you need a ton of them for big moves, but for books and heavy stuff they're perfect and zero bug risk. Also ask the manager if they mind you grabbing last week's boxes from the back room, most are cool with it if you're polite. Just double check for any sticky stains from broken bottles before you stack them in your car.
