PSA: That ceramic mug with the hairline crack finally split on me mid-coffee

I was at the bus stop on 5th and Main last Tuesday, holding my favorite mug from a yard sale, and it just snapped right down the middle. Hot coffee went everywhere, my hand got a little burned, and I had to toss the whole thing in a trash can across the street. Now I check every mug I get for tiny cracks with a flashlight before I bring it home, even if it looks fine. Anyone else had a cup fail on them in public, or do you just trust all thrift store ceramics?
