That old blender came back to life after I swapped the base
Picked up a 1990s Oster blender at a garage sale in Portland for 6 bucks, but it just sat because the base was cracked and wobbled like crazy. Found a donor base from a thrift store for 3 dollars, and it fit perfectly after 20 minutes of cleaning the contacts. Anyone else ever revived a junk appliance with a different brand's part instead of just tossing it?

Read a piece not long ago about how many appliances from that era were built with standard parts across several brands. Sounds like you stumbled onto that little secret, and it is a good feeling to bring something back with a few bucks and some cleaning. More people should try a little fix before sending things to the dump.

Man, exactly! I did the same thing with an old dryer last year. Found a busted heating element online for like 15 bucks and had it running again in an afternoon. It felt way better than just hauling it to the curb.
