The $3 toaster from the swap bin lasted longer than my $80 one
Last Tuesday I grabbed a beat-up toaster from the swap shelf at the community center near Denton. My fancy one died after 14 months, but this old Proctor-Silex has popped perfect bagels every morning for a week straight. It made me wonder if we all overthink these basic appliances. Anyone else score something cheap from a swap that outlived the store bought version?

Read somewhere that planned obsolescence is real for a lot of new appliances, they build them to die. My grandma's old mixer from a garage sale still runs smooth, and she paid five bucks. Sometimes the simple stuff just works better.
