The bread machine I grabbed for $8 turned out to make terrible bread but great doorstop
Picked up a used bread machine at a garage sale in Portland last Saturday for 8 bucks, thought I scored big. Got it home, fired it up with a basic loaf recipe, and the thing sounded like a blender full of rocks for 20 minutes. The bread came out dense and weirdly burnt on one side, like a hockey puck that went through a toaster. But now I use the machine itself to hold my pantry door open, and the pan works great for storing loose screws and washers. Anyone else end up repurposing a swap find for something totally different than what it was built for?

Ha! My $10 juicer is now a fancy onion and garlic holder.

Fancy onion and garlic holder" is honestly the most relatable thing I've heard all week. It's like every kitchen gadget eventually becomes a storage container for something it was never meant to hold. I've got a spiralizer that's basically a colander now, and my bread machine is a fancy home for my cast iron pans. We buy all this stuff thinking it'll change our cooking game, but really it just becomes another shelf decoration with a specific job nobody uses. It's a whole cycle of hope and then giving up and finding a new purpose. Nothing ever gets thrown away, it just gets demoted to holding onions.
