A guy at the truck stop in Boise called me out on my fuel filter routine
I was always just swapping them every 10k miles like clockwork, no questions asked. This old-timer saw me grabbing a box of them and said, 'Kid, you're tossing good money if you don't check the water separator first.' He was right. Now I drain the bowl and check for water every 5k, and I've stretched my filter changes to 15k without a single issue. How many of you actually check the separator before you just swap the whole thing?

So you're telling me I've been basically just lighting money on fire for the past two years? I feel like a total noob now. Gonna start checking that bowl this weekend for sure.

Hey, don't feel too bad. I once spent six months thinking my car had a major engine problem. Turns out I was just driving with the parking brake on. We all have those moments.

Lighting money on fire" is my middle name. I was doing the same exact thing, just swapping it out on a schedule like it was some kind of religious ritual. I probably changed a dozen filters that were still totally clean. My wallet still cries a little when I think about it.
