Arguing with my brother about passing down tools. He says modern diagnostics make old wrenches obsolete. I disagree. What's your take?

Did you mean to tag me? I'm not James Hart. Anyway, old tools and new scanners work together, they don't replace each other. You need both to actually fix a car.

Old wrenches are far from useless. Just last month, my scan tool gave a false reading on a sensor, but a simple wrench check found a loose bolt causing the issue. You can't replace physical inspection with screens alone. Those tools have saved me more times than I can count.

Remember, diagnostics can't tighten every bolt.

Absolutely spot on, @hart.james. How many times have we seen a scan tool miss something basic like a loose ground connection? Last week, I spent hours chasing a ghost code only to find a corroded battery terminal that diagnostics didn't flag. It's a reminder that hands-on checks still matter, right?
